Oh god I'm sweaty and gross and my hair's a mess and this isn't sparkly enough for how I imagined my reunion at all where's the cherry blossoms and the dramatic music?

... There's a look of abject terror on her face before she considers you and then breaks out into a big fanged smile.

She sits up and winces a bit as she gets to her feet to wrap you into a bearhug and snuggle and a kiss before at least setting you back down to your feet. She's not letting go though.

"Demon grandmother decided we should all 'be prepared' and 'ill winds blow' and 'toughen up' so I go to sleep one night and next day wake up in mountains! Has been... Um... grueling?"

She groans a little before getting to her feet and pulling you into a hug. It's not quite as dramatic as she would hug Slate (or Garum) but it is pretty evident she missed you alot.

What have you been doing? I was just talking to Yuma the other day that we hadn't seen you around lately.

"Um... Grandmother of birth family might have kidnapped her grandchildren for 'quality time' in the mountains. She is not so good with human conventions, I think."

That sounds like something Yuma and his dad would do for quality time, too.
So maybe not as far off as you think.
